Coffee Mornings
Fund Raising
Christmas cards
And Finally
Firstly I would like to thank Suzanne for hosting the last coffee morning. Sue Snooks (from the Kent Disability Register) and Clare Choules (a social worker based in Swanley) joined us and it was good to catch up with their news. Sue updated us on the Aiming High Project and its funding. I have various leaflets about Aiming High (and the Kent Disability Register) - if anyone would like a copy please contact me. It is only by joining the Kent Disability Register that people like Sue know what the Parents in Kent need/would like for their children and can plan for the future. The Kent Disability Register is completely confidential and further details can be read –
www.kent.gov.uk/SocialCare/disability/childrens-disability-registerThe next coffee morning will be from 10am to 12 midday on Wednesday 12th November 2008 at Louise’s house in Tunbridge Wells, the phone number for Louise is 01892 525644. Nick Smyth from KCC Transport will be our speaker. Nick will discuss general policy issues and the operation of special needs transport but is unable to discuss individual cases. I think this will be very interesting, because although I have been a ‘user’ of KCC Special Needs Transport’ for many years nobody has ever given me any information about what my expectations of the service should be!
We still plan to have a toy stall at the HAHA Show in September 2009, unless anyone can think of a better venue or fund raising activity. So please think of us when you are having your pre (or post) Christmas clearout of your toy cupboard.
We need toys, books, videos, board games, computer games ie anything we can sell on a toy stall. Girls’ toys are particularly welcome! We always have a shortage of girls’ toys because most of our members are parents of boys because it is boys who tend to have speech and language needs
I will collect your ‘old toys’ any time and store them in my spare room until September.
And while on the subject of Christmas! I am again selling Afasic Christmas Cards this year, there are 3 news designs including designs from previous years and details can be found –
www.west-kent-afasic.fsnet.co.uk/latestnews-08-10-01-xmascards.htmYou can also buy your cards direct from Afasic but then will have to pay 70p per pack p&p – if you buy from me there is no p&p!
Please support us by purchasing Afasic Christmas cards – it benefits both West Kent Afasic and Afasic financially as well raising awareness of Afasic and speech and language impairments. Thank you for your support.
Any articles for newsletter gratefully received
