Brief Description of Special Needs catered for

Nursery Education

Criteria for admission –

1. Severe learning difficulties.

2. Profound multiple learning difficulties.

3. Serious medical condition plus learning or physical/sensory difficulties.

4. Children with severe physical difficulties where an assessment of their ability is required.

5. Children presenting with global developmental delay who need an assessment place to ascertain their level of ability

6. Children who have difficulties on the autistic spectrum, whose learning or behavioural patterns are such that they need specialist teaching programmes, with a view to inclusion in mainstream as a placement where necessary.

 A nursery education group operates 4.5 days per week during term time, for children aged 2-5 years, each child attends a maximum of 4 sessions.

Playgroup

Criteria for admission –

1.      Children aged between 2 and 4 years who are presenting with learning or developmental delay due to social or environmental factors.

2.      Children aged between 2 and 4 years who are presenting with social and/or emotional difficulties that are impairing on their ability to learn.

 The playgroup operates 2 mornings per week during term time.

Holiday Play Schemes

1-1 Play Scheme is aimed at children who require a high level of supervision, either because of medical or behavioural needs, and who cannot easily be accommodated in existing play scheme provision.

Under 8’s Play Scheme is for children under 8 who are too young to qualify for the other special needs play schemes in the area.

Sibling Play Scheme is for children in school years 3-6 who have a sibling with a social communication disorder

Work with Parents/Carers

Parents are offered the opportunity to participate in various courses which are run on a regular basis, priority is given to parents of Ravensdale playgroup children.

How Parents Obtain a Place

Children are referred to the Nursery Education Group and Playgroup through the ‘Multi Agency Early Years Meeting’ Parent/carer/child are invited to visit prior to accepting a place.

Children are referred to the Holiday Play Scheme through the Children with Disabilities team (Social Services).
